Professional-grade calculators for homeowners and contractors. Mulch, gravel, tree removal, sod, irrigation — instant results, no signup required.
Three steps to a confident estimate — no account, no cost, no hassle.
Most landscaping overspending comes down to one thing: guessing the quantity. Order too little mulch and you pay a second delivery fee. Order too much gravel and you're left with a pile on the driveway. Accept a tree quote with no frame of reference and you may pay double the going rate.
LandscapeCalculator.net exists to answer those how much questions before you spend money. Each calculator uses the same arithmetic a supplier uses at the counter: area times depth, converted to cubic yards, then to tons, bags or pallets using typical figures for that material. You get a number you can take to the supplier or compare against a contractor's quote.
Use the mulch, topsoil, gravel and landscape rock calculators, plus the new sand, fill dirt and compost calculators, for anything sold by the cubic yard or ton. Enter the length, width and depth of the area. You'll get cubic yards, an estimate in tons or bags, and a reminder to add extra for settling and compaction.
Starting a new lawn? Work through the topsoil calculator first, then the sod or grass seed calculator, then the fertilizer calculator. Sod is figured in pallets, seed in pounds by grass type, and fertilizer from your product's nitrogen percentage.
The paver, retaining wall and concrete edging calculators estimate materials. The tree trimming, tree removal and irrigation tools return a cost range, so you can judge whether a quote is reasonable.
| Material | Typical depth | One cubic yard covers | Sold by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mulch | 2–3 in | 108–162 sq ft | Cubic yard or 2–3 cu ft bag |
| Topsoil (new lawn) | 4–6 in | 54–81 sq ft | Cubic yard (≈1.35 tons) |
| Gravel driveway | 4–6 in | 54–81 sq ft | Ton (density varies by stone) |
| Decorative rock | 2–3 in | 108–162 sq ft | Ton (≈1.45 tons per yard) |
| Sod | n/a | One pallet ≈ 450 sq ft | Pallet or square foot |
Coverage = 27 cubic feet ÷ depth in feet. Confirm density and pallet size with your local supplier.
The math is exact for the measurements you enter. Real-world accuracy depends on how well you measure and how closely your material matches typical density. Irregular beds, slopes and soft ground all add material, so we recommend 5–15% extra for most bulk orders.
Suppliers sell light, bulky materials such as mulch and topsoil by volume, and heavy stone by weight. The calculators give you both figures so you can order in whichever unit your supplier uses.
No. They're planning ranges based on typical U.S. pricing, adjusted for the factors you choose. Prices vary by region, season and site access. Use them to budget and to sanity-check written quotes from local contractors.
